Convention 2007 >

Since 1962, Chinese-American Engineers and Scientists Association of Southern California (CESASC) has strongly and consistently supported the advancement of technology and encouraged our youth to pursue careers in math and science. The upcoming CESASC Convention shall provide a networking opportunity for Chinese-American scientists and engineers to build relationships and exchange ideas that will broaden their knowledge base for career advancement and help our country to stay on the cutting edge of technology. On April 14, 2007 at Hilton Los Angeles Airport, a whole day event includes a luncheon, a Technical Symposium, and a Convention dinner banquet will be held which marks the 45th anniversary of the great organization. President George W. Bush has written a letter congratulating CESASC for "reaching this important milestone". "I appreciate CESASC for your commitment to continuing America's legacy of progress. Your efforts contribute to the brighter future and embody the spirit of American innovation." President Bush wrote.

This event features more than a dozen speakers that covers a wide variety of topics in life sciences, information technology, engineering and energy, health, entertainment, and leadership and management, etc. CESASC will recognize three distinguished Chinese-Americans engineers and scientists who have made significant contributions and achievements to major US industries and world science and technology advances. All three of them will speak at different time of the event:

11:30 am (approx.): Ms. Heidi Shyu, Corporate Vice President of Technology & Research, Raytheon Company. Her keynote speech at the Luncheon is: "Leadership for the 21st Century."

12:45 am (approx.): Dr. Xiaodong Wang, Member of National Academy of Sciences, Investigator of Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Professor of University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center. His keynote speech at the Technical Symposium is: "Saving Lives by Understanding Death."

7:30 pm (approx.): Mr. John J. Sie, Founder and Chairman, Starz Entertainment. His keynote speech at the Convention dinner banquet is: "Evolution of an Electrical Engineer over a Half Century."

Please sign up to attend the event at CESASC. Other speakers in the afternoon include scientists from UCLA, USC, and Hunan University as well as senior managers and engineers from URS Corp., Calstart, Google, and Aerospace Corp. They will talk about recent development on cancer research, renewable energy, modern architecture, digital media, and wireless technology. Other seminar topics will cover health maintenance, humor, and poker game techniques.

The Luncheon ticket is $20 (or $10 for students and those attending dinner banquet). Seminars are free. The Convention dinner banquet ticket is $60.

The venue is Hilton Los Angeles Airport at 5711 W. Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045. Use hotel self-parking garage for parking. Pick up a parking voucher for discounted $7 per day self-parking at CESASC event registration desks. Parking validation card for free parking is available at the Lower Lobby Life Sciences session between 12:30pm and 1pm.
